FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NCJW Joins Partners Calling for Scott Lloyd’s Resignation

March 15, 2018, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) today joined       All Above All*, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, and many more organizations at the US Department of Health and Human Services to drop thousands of petitions calling for Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement Scott Lloyd’s resignation. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:

“National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is proud to have collected thousands of signatures demanding that Scott Lloyd, Director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), be removed, and that the Trump Administration immediately restore access to comprehensive reproductive health care services and information — including abortion —for the thousands of young immigrants in ORR’s care.

“Scott Lloyd has used his position to advance his own personal religious agenda, preventing immigrant children and youth in ORR custody from accessing abortion. The ORR has a legal obligation to provide prompt access to safe medical care to those within its charge. Yet, Lloyd has shamed, bullied, and coerced young people instead of offering safe reproductive care.

“Scott Lloyd is bound by law to respect the rights of others to make decisions about their health care and future with dignity and self-determination no matter their immigration status. We will continue our critical work to protect and advance this right, with ORR’s reinstatement of access to reproductive health care and services and Scott’s removal a top priority.”

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
