Urge Senators to Expand Background Checks!

The Background Check Expansion Act (S 42), introduced by Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) on January 8, 2019, would expand the National Criminal Instant Background Check System (NICS) to require a background check on nearly every gun sale or transfer with exceptions for gifts to family members, hunting, target shooting, and self-defense. The House passed (240-190) a similar measure on February 27 — the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (HR 8) — offered by Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA), but with an amendment requiring notification of Immigration and Customs Enforcement when an undocumented immigrant attempts to purchase a gun. NCJW supports a clean expanded background check bill like S 42 that would save lives.
