FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Trump Takes Next Step to Sabotage Health Care Reform

October 13, 2017, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) has condemned President Trump’s latest move to sabotage American health care by further destabilizing insurance markets. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:

“President Trump’s latest attack on American health care will make insurance unaffordable for millions and cripple the structure of our health care system. By unilaterally ending subsidies to insurance companies providing polices to moderate income Americans through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) online marketplaces, he has deliberately sought to drive up the cost of health insurance and then has the audacity to pass the buck back to Congress to fix what he has broken.

“The ripple effects of upending the existing structure of the law will restore the pre-ACA status quo of inferior, unaffordable, inadequate, and just plain unattainable health care. Americans spoke loudly to their members of Congress when Trump’s alternatives came to a vote and failed. They must speak more loudly now. Members of the National Council of Jewish Women will redouble efforts to end the assault on the ACA launched by Trump and his ideological soulmates on Capitol Hill.”

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
