Texas Court Creates Disaster for Health Care

December 15, 2018, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) expressed its utter disbelief at US District Judge Reed O’Connor’s ruling in Texas, et. al. vs. United States, et al. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:

“This case, brought by a handful of conservative attorneys general and governors, and ultimately backed by the Trump administration, shows a complete disregard for the needs and wants of 90% of Americans. No matter how loud and clear the American people have been about their overwhelming support for the Affordable Care Act, many conservatives cannot seem to keep trying to derail it.

“Judge Reed’s deeply flawed ruling hinders Medicaid expansion, guts protections for pre-existing conditions, and increases costs for women and seniors. Millions will lose health care if this ruling stands. What a lovely gift to the American people this holiday season.

“President Trump and the conservative attorneys general who are behind this political lawsuit are now one step closer to achieving their longstanding goals: putting the lives and health care of tens of millions of people with pre-existing conditions at risk by returning to the dangerous old days when insurance companies could deny coverage to women for simply being women, as well as deny care and coverage to tens of thousands of families. We will work with the incoming Congress and will look to the courts to ensure this decision never takes effect.”

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action.
