Senate Confirms Another Right-Wing Judge—this time to the 11th Circuit
July 30, 2018, Washington, DC – The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) today expressed its deep dismay regarding the confirmation of Britt Grant to a lifetime seat on 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman released the following statement:
“Grant has expressed support for a ‘fetal pain’ law passed by the Georgia legislature that made it illegal for doctors to perform abortions pre-viability. She also joined states challenging the Affordable Care Act and worked to eliminate access to contraception for millions of women. Moreover, she opposed equality for LGBTQ Americans, fighting marriage equality and efforts to protect transgender students. She also worked to undermine the Voting Rights Act and fought collective bargaining for public sector workers. Grant’s choice to associate herself with this agenda speaks volumes. She lacks a commitment to mainstream constitutional values and fundamental rights that is a baseline requirement for any judge.”
The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
