Tell Congress: Don’t silence millions of voters

Tell Congress: Stop the SAVE Act

Voting is a fundamental right. Full stop.

Yet, Congress is advancing dangerous legislation that would force Americans to “show their papers” to register and cast their vote.

This isn’t about protecting elections. It’s about putting new barriers in front of millions of eligible voters — especially women, LGBTQ+ people, older adults, and voters of color.

For example, 69 million married women do not have a birth certificate that matches their current legal name. Under these laws, they — and millions of others — could face new hurdles just to exercise their basic right to vote.

No one should have their vote, their voice, taken from them.

As Jewish advocates, we are called to pursue justice and protect the dignity and rights of all people. Our democracy is strongest when everyone can participate.

Urge your members of Congress: Oppose the SAVE Act bills and protect our sacred right to vote.

Anti-democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill are once again working to undermine access to the ballot by advancing legislation to require voters to prove citizenship by“showing their papers” and when registering to vote. These  “SAVE Act” bills are dangerous and could block millions of Americans who cannot easily access these documents — including 69 million married women without a birth certificate matching their legal name, as well as younger voters, LGBTQ+ voters, voters of color, elderly voters, and so many more — from voting.

As Jewish advocates, we have a responsibility to pursue tzedek, or justice. Equal access to the ballot is the foundation of our democracy and the SAVE Act bills undermine democracy’s sacred promise of ensuring every voice is heard. Urge your members of Congress: protect the sacred right to vote and oppose the dangerous SAVE Act bills!
