Support the Equality Act!

Jewish texts teach that all people are created in the image of G-d, b’tzelem Elohim. However, the Supreme Court’s decision in the case 303 Creative v. Elenis sanctions discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, which is at odds with our tradition and underscores the need for federal protections. The Equality Act (HR 15/S 5), introduced by Representative Mark Takano (D-CA) in the House and Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Cory Booker (D-NJ) in the Senate, would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to extend non-discrimination protections to the LGBTQ+ community, explicitly prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation in employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding housing, and public accommodations. No matter an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or sex characteristics, they should be able to enjoy life free from discrimination.
