Expand the Child Tax Credit!

The expanded and improved Child Tax Credit under the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021 was the largest tax cut for working families in generations, distributing nearly $93 billion in payments to families nationwide, reaching over 61 million children, and lifting nearly 4 million children out of poverty between July and December 2021. However, the current Child Tax Credit excludes one-third of our nation’s children from receiving the full credit, disproportionately burdening families of color, single-parent families, rural families, and families with young children. The American Family Act would restore the expanded monthly Child Tax Credit and make it permanent, providing a significant boost to struggling low and moderate-income families. Ending childhood poverty and ensuring families can provide the best possible start in life for their children must be national priorities.
