Protect Non-Profits
Last week, the House of Representatives voted on HR 9495, and while the bill still passed the House 219-184, our advocacy succeeded in urging 39 of the 52 democrats who voted YES last week to vote NO. That is a huge change, all due to your outreach to make sure your representatives understood our concerns. Thank you!
Our shared advocacy contributed to a groundswell of opposition that will make it challenging for the bill to pass in the Senate by the end of the year!
If your Member of Congress voted NO (see the list here), we encourage you to call to thank them! You can call the Capitol Switchboard (202-456-1111). Please share the following message with the person who answers the phone in your Representative’s office:
“My name is_____and I am an advocate with National Council of Jewish Women [name section]. I am calling to thank the Representative for their vote to oppose HR 9495, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act. This overly broad bill threatens free speech and the ability of non-profit organizations to work in support of their missions. Please thank them again for voting no on HR 9495.”
If your Member of Congress voted YES (see the list here), we encourage you to call to share your disappointment. You can call the Capitol Switchboard (202-456-1111). Please share the following message with the person who answers the phone in your Representative’s office:
“My name is_____and I am an advocate with National Council of Jewish Women [name section]. I am calling to share my disappointment that the Representative voted for HR 9495, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act. This overly broad bill threatens free speech and the ability of non-profit organizations to work in support of their missions. Our democracy depends on a myriad of voices speaking up and speaking out.”
It is important that offices hear from us no matter how they voted. As always, please share anything you hear from your conversations.
Thank you again for your advocacy!
