Geting Out the Vote (GOTV) during the Pandemic

The current pandemic is changing how we work on Getting Out the Vote (GOTV), but it won’t stop us. We do not have to choose between a healthy population and a healthy democracy. Here are two important things you can do during these uncertain times:

Use NCJW’s TurboVote Tool to GOTV! Recruit volunteers to call every member of your section or simply call your friends and family to see if they have registered to vote.

  1. Use NCJW’s online TurboVote tool to register people to vote by reading the questions out loud and filling in the form. You can also share the link with the person you are speaking to and stay on the phone with them as they register to vote.
  2. Use the online TurboVote tool to find the latest information for the person you are calling, including their primary date and polling location. Share it with them to help them make a plan to vote.
  3. With all that is unknown due to COVID-19, help the person you are speaking to request an absentee ballot using the online TurboVotetool (after confirming registration, it should pop up as an option).
  4. Need help getting started with NCJW’s TurboVote registration tool? Watch and read these:

Advocate for democracy. Call your Members of Congress at 202-224-3121 and ask them to prioritize voter access.

Sample script: Hello, my name is ______ and I’m calling from the National Council of Jewish Women to say that voting access must be a priority now and in November 2020. I’m calling to ask Representative _____ to appropriate at least $2 billion to implement comprehensive policies that expand voter registration, in-person early voting, no-excuse absentee voting by mail, voter education, and safe in-person voting on Election Day.  This way everyone has access to vote! Thank you for your time.
