Helping Children, Helping Each Other: The Back to School Stores in St. Louis and Essex CountyAugust 27, 2009 | 4 commentsAbout 700 volunteers came together this year in St. Louis and Essex County to make events in both communities a great success. In total, we outfitted 1,178 children for school, giving them much-needed clothing like shoes, shirts, pants, socks, underwear, coats, hats, and gloves – plus backpacks, school supplies, and personal care items like shampoo. But the Stores didn’t stop there. We also provided these children and their families with resources and information about a range of important health issues, such as blood pressure check-ups, cholesterol and glucose screenings, health insurance, lead paint, and more. Taking NCJW’s Voice to Capitol HillApril 24, 2009 | 4 commentsIn February, the State Public Affair chairs gathered in Washington DC for two days of training, inspiration, and of course, visits to the Hill. Just prior to my trip to Washington, I called Congresswoman Ros-Lethinen's office to set up an appointment. I figured I would end up meeting with a staff member.
