Emily Alfano is the senior manager of government relations for the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW). In this capacity, she leads the organization’s legislative and regulatory work. In her more than 5 years at NCJW Emily has developed expertise on policy issues related to domestic violence, health care, and economic justice. She works with federal legislators, federal agencies, and advocates from other national organizations to promote policies that ensure the well-being of women, children, and families. Emily also works closely with the NCJW grassroots staff to educate NCJW members and supports and empower them to take action at the federal, state, and local levels. In addition, Emily is the lead staff person on Higher Ground: NCJW’s Domestic Violence Campaign, a campaign designed to address violence against women by promoting women’s economic security. Prior to joining NCJW, Emily was a public policy coordinator at Genetic Alliance, an organization dedicated to building capacity in genetic advocacy organizations. There she focused on public policy issues related to the genetics field, namely genetic discrimination and stem cell research. Emily earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland, College Park.
