Recognizing her as an "Energizer of Conscious Feminism," Women's eNews paid tribute to Ms. Moshenberg for her decades as a mover and shaker on Capitol Hill -- tirelessly organizing grassroots activists from across the country to speak out for social justice. "This is quite an honor," said Sammie Moshenberg after receiving news of her award, "but this recognition does not just belong to me. I share this award with the many thousands of women, NCJW's advocates, with whom I have worked over the past 26 years to make a difference in the lives of women." "I am incredibly proud that Sammie Moshenberg has been recognized by Women's eNews for her remarkable work with NCJW volunteers to improve the quality of life for women, children, and families and to ensure individual rights and freedoms," said NCJW President Phyllis Snyder. "NCJW truly is the address for progressive Jewish women who want to make their voices heard and we are honored that Sammie has chosen to call this address home for nearly three decades." In addition to this award, Ms. Moshenberg is also a recipient of NCJW's Hannah G. Solomon Award (1998), the YWCA of the National Capital Area's Racial Justice Award (1997), and the Ruth Osborn Award from the Women's Studies Program at George Washington University (2000). She appeared on the "Forward Fifty" list of most influential Jewish individuals three times, most recently in 2005. Sammie Moshenberg, along with 20 other exceptional leaders, will be celebrated for her achievements at a Gala Benefit Dinner in New York City on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Selected by the eNews board of directors from nominations submitted by eNews readers, the 21 Leaders for the 21st Century recognition is awarded annually to 21 outstanding leaders who dedicate their lives to improving and empowering the lives of women.
