- Establishes the Research Institute for Innovation in Education (RIFIE) at Hebrew University in Jerusalem to assist at-risk children from all segments of Israeli society. RIFIE includes as many as 40 ongoing projects each year in early childhood education, school integration, vocational education, immigrant absorption, and cross-cultural education. Major programs include: HIPPY/Haetgar (Home Instruction for Pre-School Youngsters), Manof, and YACHAD.
- Builds Hebrew University High School in Jerusalem.
- Helps organize the first White House Conference on Aging.
- Launches the Senior Service Corps, designed to help seniors lead productive lives as volunteers. The program is later adapted by the federal government as the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
- Conducts a national survey of unemployed youth and creates an 18-point action program. Publishes A Start for Youth -- outlining community service and social action to meet the needs of youngsters.
- Participates in the development of Women in Community Service (WICS) -- an interfaith effort to assist low-income women in securing jobs and other aid.
- Promotes voter education and registration following the passage of the Voting Rights Act.
