NCJW Mourns Victims of Attack on Sikh Temple

August 6, 2012, Washington, DC — The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) released the following statement today from NCJW CEO Nancy K. Kaufman regarding the attack on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin yesterday in Oak Creek, WI:

“NCJW mourns the victims of the horrendous attack on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin yesterday in Oak Creek, WI. That this hate crime occurred at a house of worship makes it all the more despicable. We pray for the swift and full recovery of those injured and grieve the loss of those loved by their families and friends – both members of the Sikh community and law enforcement officers who sought to save them. We understand the sense of isolation and confusion that members of a minority religion inevitably feel at such an incomprehensible event, and send our support and prayers at this terrible time.”

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
